The media for Jaclyn Backhaus's Men on Boats was divided into two concepts: one for man and for nature. The natural world was represented by the river projected on the floor, which changed shape, size, and speed as the men take their journey. For the men, the media took the form of "magic lantern slides" which would have been used in the 1860's to display early photographs taken of the expedition.
